This month's challenge is issued by the creative and prolific Lisa Spiegel, a scrapbooker from California who works hard to keep her pages focused on the photos and the story. Here it is in her own words:
" January is a month where we make resolutions, start fresh and have a new outlook towards many things. Our scrapping is the same way! We start new albums, pick "one little word" for new focus and even try new techniques. My challenge this month is to use the word "new" to inspire your page. Try to move beyond new products (although that is fun!) and scrap about something "new" you're committed to (maybe a new diet?), "new" to you experience and while you're at it, use a "new to you" technique. Something you've NEVER tried before this page. Tell us how it goes in your blog post!!"
I thought long and hard on what to do for this challenge, maybe I was procrastinating, lol! any way, I finally decided to create a page on the word I chose for 2015- FOCUS. This word was chosen because I need to focus more on my listening skills and also I want to work on using my DSLR camera out of the auto mode, so focus fit here too.
While in Michaels one day, I needed texture paste. When I went to get it, I noticed they have a bunch of mixed media items and started reading bottles. Instead of texture paste, I decided to buy Liquitex Glass Beads. Now I have had this for about 2 months and decided this was the perfect time to try it, something new;)
I also wanted to use my Cameo, which is fairly new as it was a Christmas gift.
Here is my layout using a sketch from Let's Capture Our Memories, the Glass Beads & Heidi Swapp September Skies:
Here are some close ups:
I cut my title using the Cameo along with the swag banner.
Here you can see the Glass Beads. I used a stencil to add them. Once they were dry, I added a few different colors of watercolors:
I thought the Glass Beads would be more like texture paste, but it dries clear. I like the Glass Beads, but Maybe next time, I would randomly put them on a page or use a larger stencil. I will definitely be getting another bottle of texture paste soon.
We encourage you to check out each designer's creation this month: here's a complete list of this month's participating designers!

That's so cool! I never thought to put the beads in the paste...that is definitely going to be my next technique!
ReplyDeleteI really like the texture of the glass beads and the vibrant colour on your page is awesome.....lovely photo's too!
ReplyDeleteOne thing I really want to try is gelato, but since I don't do many muted watercolor type pages I don't really know what I'd use them for.
ReplyDeletegreat page and love the glass beads, I've never tried those!!! love all the pics you did in the grid!!! well done!!
ReplyDeleteI love your colour choices, and the beautiful photos of you. I like the dual meaning for your "word", too. Yep, glass beads dry clear, but that means you can do cool stuff underneath them. Have fun experimenting with them more, and ya, modeling paste is still my #1 texture medium too. Great page!
ReplyDeleteYou really did an amazing job on this page! BL
ReplyDeleteWow Lisa, you rocked this challenge. Your layout is amazing. I love your photos and I also love how you added the glass beads. What a super cool idea. Thanks for joining us at LCOM.
